This morning I sat down to work on my next book. In the introduction I talk about teaching children to tie their shoe laces.  So I wanted to get a few interesting links about shoe laces. I went to Hotbot and typed in the keywords, shoe and laces.  Here are the first two hits I got.

Now in order to see why this qualifies for the filtering follies, you have to visit both sites and keep in mind that the FIRST site was BLOCKED and the SECOND site was NOT BLOCKED

Well, about ten minutes after I posted this update, messages started coming in.  It seems that other filters weren't blocking the first page but others were.  Since some of you cant see one page or the other, here is a description of the two sites.

http://www.bootlaces.com/  is a mail order catalog of shoe laces without even so much as an image other than the company logo.

http://users.powernet.co.uk/wingett/articles.htm is a page that is a cute parody. That had five different captioned pictures of Alternative Laces such as this. 

I thought is was rather amusing that the CyberNot list blocked the first site and not the second. 

Another reader noted that XStop, set to block ONLY pornography didn't block the first site but blocked this one.

Websense also blocked the same was as XStop.

Before this is over, the Abbott and Costello routine of Who's on First, may make sense!
