It Takes Many Villages to Build a World: Homeplace Page 30 minutes Purpose - To introduce each other, to share a concrete process of creating a personal homepage; to assess the participants knowledge of homepages, links, and the World Wide Web, to work with art materials with the conventions of the World Wide Web Goals - To build local community and sustainability for the work Preparation - Get materials, flip paper, markers, Post Its, tape and place enough on each table for participants to use. Activity 1. Process and Participant Modality Participants will work together with each other in groups of their own choosing and use art materials at tables to create a concrete Home Place Page which they will share and hang on the wall to add to the environment. Check that participants have the necessary materials and understand the open ended description. It is a good idea for the facilitators to also make their own personal page also. After 15 minutes, watching to see if the participants have completed, let each person share the HomePlace page and allow people to notice links among themselves. Try to find links (similarities and common connections) if participants are having trouble doing this and celebrate connections. 2. Key dialogue ideas Please work together with these materials and each other to create a personal HomePlace page that will tell us about you. You can work in parallel or create a combined page. Each person will get a large piece of paper for her page. Use the papers, markers and Post Its to organize and decorate your page with words or pictures. You can include your interests, dreams, realities, items that will help us recognize you. After you finish, your pages, we will tape them on the wall, share them individually and look for links in our interests and community. © Copyright 1997 The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development/The World Bank
