CyberU Glossary - S

shell
It's not a game, and it's not something found on the beach.  It refers to a type of Internet account that is strictly text-based.  It's also known as a unix  or unix shell account. It used to be the ONLY way to access Internet until web browsers came along.

.sit
This is what I say to my dog when I want him to stay, or it is the type of file I would expect to find if  I was downloading a program for a Mac.  SIT files are compressed Mac files for downloading.  You need a program such as Unstuffit to decompress them and make them useful on your computer.

stoppers
When doing a search, there are words that will hinder your search.  These are common words appearing in articles that have nothing to do with your research. Stoppers are words such as: a, and, the, of,  or for.
