Creating Bookmarks

Creating a Bookmark and Making a Mistake

We often learn more from mistakes than we do when we do things right.  Let's start out be doing something wrong that we  will undo.

  • Go up to the top menu on Netscape
  • Click on Bookmarks and then click on Add Bookmark
  • You have just created a bookmark for the page that is on your screen. Any time you want to revisit this page all you need do is go up to the Bookmarks menu, slide down to the bookmark and click on it. It's that simple.
  • Now go up to the Bookmark menu and to the same thing three more times.
  • You have now created a total of four bookmarks to the same place.  I think that's a little overkill, but don't worry we will take care of that.

Removing Bookmarks

This is where people go crazy. People usually manage to find out how to make bookmarks, but many don't learn how to manipulate them once they are created.  This can lead to huge lists with  duplicate entries, entries that are outdated, and a half dozen other problems that are difficult to use.

Let's start with learning how to get rid of unwanted bookmarks. You must do this in a Netscape's Bookmark editing window. You can get  there two ways. Here's how...

  • On Netscape's top menu you will see an item named Window.
  • Next click on Bookmarks and the Bookmark window will appear.
  • An easier menthod would be to pull down the Bookmark menu and click on Go to Bookmarks...
  • Once you are at the bookmark menu find one of the bookmarks you want to remove and click on it so that it is highlighted in blue.
  • If you are using Windows all you have to do is hit the delete key. With a Mac, after highlighting the unwanted bookmark you have to go up to the File menu and click on Delete Bookmark.
  • Get rid of three of the four bookmarks. If you had other bookmarks there already, you can get rid of them now if you like, or you can leave them there. We will learn about organizing them in the next lesson.
